Mirjam Tome

Managing Director

Skyborn Australia is based in Sydney, and was established in 2022 with the aim of developing, building and operating offshore wind power in Australia and contributing to Australia’s target of net zero emissions by 2050.

Renewable energy and especially offshore wind plays a major role in achieving net zero emissions by 2050 by replacing coal-fired power stations that are set to close.

In fact, Australia has competitive offshore wind resources, and the industry could bring significant benefits to the national energy system as well as economic and social benefits to regional communities through opening up new employment opportunities and technological developments. It can also leverage existing skills of abundant oil and gas professionals in the region.

Moreover, local economies will benefit throughout the project through our various consultations and collaboration with communities and local partners to ensure that local requirements and needs are met.

Partnering

Skyborn Australia is actively seeking opportunities to partner or acquire other promising offshore wind projects with various industry players, ranging from developers, energy distribution companies and/or transmission companies, and various other players.

    Projects

Currently, Skyborn is working on three offshore projects in Australia. Our activities are characterised by commitment, development and a long-term approach. Our goal is to work with authorities, political decision makers, the business community and local residents to implement profitable and sustainable projects that supply Australia with clean and affordable energy from offshore wind

    • Cape Winds offshore wind farm

Following the recent Southern Ocean region zone declaration by the Department of Climate Change, Energy the Environment and Water, and confirmation thatthe proposed location for the Cape Winds project is outside the declared Southern Ocean region, Skyborn Renewables has paused the project. Skyborn and project partner Australis have undertaken extensive environmental and engineering work on the Cape Winds project over the past four years. The project JV will continue to review the project, as it considers the area ideal for offshore windfarm development.

Skyborn appreciates the stakeholder and community contribution and feedback over the past few years of early project development.

    • Myalup offshore wind farm

The Myalup Offshore Windfarm project is a 1.9 GW windfarm proposed to be built between Bunbury and Mandurah. The Commonwealth is currently seeking feedback on a proposed offshore wind area in the Indian Ocean off Bunbury, Western Australia. The Myalup Offshore Windfarm project would be entirely within the final declared area and be governed by the Federal Government's offshore wind area declaration process.
